Stair Nosing Edges
Stair Nosing Edges
Stairs are inherently hazardous by their very nature. Loss of balance on stairways can make people fall, get hurt, or even killed. To reduce the risk of slip and falls on stairs, a non-slippery surface on the whole step, or at least on the leading edge should be applied. This could be in the form of stair nosing, special paint, or anti-slip tape.
What Is Stair Nosing?
Stair nosings are variably known as stair edgings, stair covers, stair treads, stair trims, non-slip treads, etc significantly contribute to safety when selected correctly.
Stair nosings are both a safety and style feature on a staircase. They protect the edge of a step, where the most wear is experienced from foot traffic, and cover up any seams.
How Does Stair Nosing Work?
Stair nosings lengthen stairs to prevent accidents and protect the flooring as well as disguise the point where two flooring types meet.
It is an edging to a step, to protect the floorcovering fitted to the stairs from prematurely wearing out. The front edge of a step takes a battering from regular foot traffic – more so than the rest of the tread. Stair nosings are therefore fitted separately from the rest of the flooring used on the stairs. They are designed to cover up the front lip of a step.
In so doing, they avoid the need to prematurely replace the entire stair floorcovering simply because the front step edges have worn and look unsightly.
What length do step nosings come in?
It depends on the product selected but most are available in a choice of two lengths: 900mm and 2700mm. They are designed to be cut-to-length at the point of fitting, using a sharp hack-saw or similar.
Whether you want to edge the steps up your staircase, install a laminate floor nose on the top step, or cover up a raw tile edge, we have a great choice from which to choose.
