DPM, Prime & Screed

If you put down new flooring materials without a damp proof membrane and a proper priming agent, the expected lifetime of your new floor decreases drastically.

We stock a large variety of general purpose primers, self-leveling and smoothing compounds, residual moisture suppressants and damp-proof membranes.

What Is DPM?

DPM stands for damp-proof membrane. It’s a material that creates an impenetrable barrier between the screed (typically composed of cement and sharp sand) subfloor and the flooring material you will be placing atop it. The DPM stops moisture from passing through materials like carpeting, tile, and laminate and damaging your subfloor.

Before the damp-proof membrane can be applied to your screed subfloor, it must be primed and prepped. This process prevents air bubbles from rising through the subfloor and damaging the DPM, making the flooring above it bubble or warp. Properly using a DPM also improves the effectiveness of your flooring adhesives and other bonding agents.
